31 Aug 2023 - Vote for JvR!
You can vote for Jacob van Rooyen in the forward line for Melbourne Football Club's "Unbelievable Demons"
Prizes on offer and all you have to do is choose your favourite Dees players for the team.
Obviously we confess that even in only his second season, JvR got our vote!
27 Aug 2023 - Dees 11.11.77 d Swans 7.14.56
UP THE MONS!!!!
Third straight top 4 finish.
Great character shown by the team to win despite the opposition being desperate to win to secure a home final, and with us being hit by injuries during the game.
Rooey kicks one goal, with the return of Bayley Fritsch the highlight of our forward line this week.
JvR also covers a fair bit of the rucking for Max, finishing with 15 hit outs. For comparison, the Swans ruckman Hickey only had 17 and he rucked almost the whole game!
This is very much an AFL career high hit out count, with his next best 7 (twice).
I think Jacob's contribution in allowing Max to rest and us not having to play two dedicated ruckman has been under-valued this season.
JvR also lays 4 tackles and wins a clearance.
Now onto the Qualifying Final against the Pies at the MCG in about 10-11 days time.
Bring it on, we cannot wait to see the Big Roo in action in his first finals series!

22 Aug 2023 - MFC "Electrifying Performance"
Jacob is announced as the Dee's "Electrifying Performance" of the week for his great outing against the Hawks last weekend.
Video of our forward coach Greg Stafford announcing it here.
"He's got incredible air to ground" - This quote from Greg Stafford might be our new favourite way to describe why we love Roo in our forward line so much!
In other news, SEN1116 came up with the current "Ginger 22" team of AFL players. Can't believe they included Roo in the team, it's clearly blonde hair, right???
One more home and away game to go this coming weekend. Then really looking forward to see JvR competing in his first AFL finals series. Rooooo your hearts out people!

20 Aug 2023 - Dees 13.9.87 d Hawks 9.6.60
JvR kicks three goals, kicking accurately and in clutch moments when we really needed him.
He's in yet another different forward line mix this week, largely working alongside Melksham and Joel Smith, and even Josh Schache for a bit late in the game.
Jacob also helps Max out in the ruck, with no second ruckman in the team this week.
Top 4 locked in, will never take this kind of success for granted after what we have been through as a supporter group!

12 Aug 2023 - Dees 8.8.56 Lost to Carlton 9.6.60
Tough conditions for tall forwards, being a slippery night after rain earlier in the day.
With Grundy back in the team, JvR isn't required much in the ruck this week, making it harder for him to stay in the game.
Has two difficult shots on goal but is uncharacteristically inaccurate.
It was a really high pressure, contested type of game. Roo laid 3 good tackles.
Also took 2 good contested marks.
Contributed with 2 inside 50s and 2 score involvements, in a really low scoring game.
Was very "unlucky" to not receive a free kick in the dying minutes of the game when he was tackled around the legs by a Blues player. A free kick would have put him within range...
Dees are now going to struggle to finish in second, meaning we probably end up playing Brisbane in Brisbane for our first final - assuming we win one of our last 2 games and don't drop to 5th!

6 Aug 2023 - Dees 15.13.103 d North 10.11.71
A road trip to Tassie and our fifth win in a row, albeit after a slow start to the game.
JvR kicks a really important, long, set shot goal just on half time to bring us right back in the game. He also kicks another later, finishing with 2.2.
He also covers for Max a fair bit in the ruck again, winning 7 hit outs and importantly allowing Gawny a decent rest in the final quarter.
Unselfishly passes off to Kade Chandler instead of kicking another goal himself too. Two goal assists is the equal highest on the ground.

30 July 2023 - Dees 20.10.130 d Tigers 15.8.98
OMG guys, JvR kicks an AFL-career best 4 goals and is named in the best for this very important win for the Dees
Jacob kicks the first goal for the Dees, and makes a huge contribution both in the forward line and as relief ruck for Max for the rest of the game. His tall forward pairing with Harry Petty is magic.
With 15 games now under his belt, JvR's disposal efficiency averages 80.1% (fifth best at the Dees for this season). Goal kicking accuracy 73.3% (elite, top 10% of AFL forwards).

Recalled to the seniors, so we now have the correct number of Roos in the paddock.
Jacob provides very useful support to Max Gawn (who's solo following Brody Grundy being omitted) in the ruck, taking most of the ruck contests in the forward line, as well as some centre bounces.

9 July 2023 - Casey 13.15.93 d Sandringham 8.11.59
JvR inexplicably not recalled to the seniors despite an excellent game for Casey the previous week.
Dees selection a Roo short in the top paddock...
But moving on to the Casey game:
Jacob kicks 1.1 but is on the bench for the whole fourth quarter.
Hoped at the time that meant he was likely to be recalled to the Dees the next week.
Lays 5 tackles in 3 quarters.
Wasn't great entries into the forward line by Casey, so not a lot of opportunities.
Was named emergency for the Dees game against the Saints the night before.
